Day 16 – Burgos – 0km – rest day

April 29, 2015 by gerryv

Today is meant to be a rest day after some very long and taxing days. We start with a leisurely breakfast at a more reasonable hour. We intend to spend the day exploring the city and resting quite a bit.

We spend the morning in the Cathedral – what an amazing gift. It would put Notre Dame in Paris to shame. The size is amazing and the many different chapels are so beautifully adorned with statues and wood carvings all painted in gold.

An awesome sight.

After walking to the top of the hill to look at the Castillo, we are disappointed it is closed. A lunch by the beautiful river allows us to relax and rest our weary legs. We take the tourist train ride around the city to see the sites.

Coincidence is a funny thing. Three times we bumped into fellow peregrinos during our stroll around Burgos. Ten second either way we wouldn’t have done so. It was terrific to be able to share some stories quickly before going our separate ways again. I wonder where they are now.

We finish the day with a stroll along the river, stop off for a night cap and settle into bed for an early night. Even though it is still daylight outside at 9pm.

El Cid sends us off on our way.
