I arrived today at St Jean Pied de Port to make final preparations for the Camino which will begin on Tuesday. It has been a long journey to get here. The flight to Madrid was 21 hours, the train to Hendaye was 8 hours, the bus to Biarritz then to Bayonie and then to St Jean Pied de Port was another 4 hours in total.
The travelling time gave me lots of opportunity to contemplate what the Camino would entail. But, it wasn’t till today after arriving in SJPdP that it really came to me that this was a challenge and experince I was so looking forward to and would enjoy.
We set out on Tuesday to confront the most difficult day – up and over the Pyrenees. This is meant to be the most difficult day.
I met lots of Pilgrims at Bayonne who were all travelling to SJPdP with their own challenges ahead.
