An overcast sky and very cold conditions greet us as we set out on the first of 3 long days to Burgos. Today seems to be a race out of town by the pilgrims, trying to get to the first breakfast stop ahead of everyone else. So much so, we missed a marker in our haste and were travelling parallel with everyone else for a while until the paths crossed again. No harm done.

Rain rears a menacing threat again and we quickly don our rain gear for a wet walk. It proves to be an over reaction, but the extra layer keeps me warm.

No real hills today, but the easier walk is much appreciated. The walk is peaceful and rewarding. It gives me time to reflect and realise how lucky I am to be doing this. Whilst being away from work can be disruptive to everyone else, it is allowing me to do something completely different – physically, socially and spiritually. I am really appreciating being away from the stresses of my normal routine.

The last few kilometres into Belorado are into a biting head wind, sent down from the surrounding mountains. So, reaching our destination in the early afternoon was a godsend. We decide to bunker down for the afternoon, do some washing, and enjoy a relaxing spa bath in our room (a treat completely out of the blue).

Our day finishes with dinner with a couple from California, pilgrims we met a couple of days earlier. We exchange stories of the past couple of days, enjoy a pilgrims meal together and set off to bed for an early night. Tomorrow is long and the weather is expected to be cold. I thought Spain was supposed to be a warm place.
