After a good breakfast we set off a little later than we expected. It took us a while to get of Burgos – I hadn’t realised how big the city was. We exit the city through the gates to which, in the movie “The Way”, Martin Sheen has his pack carried. We were offered no such luxury.
We pass a spot alongside the railway line, where, on our journey to the beginning of our Camino, we spotted some pilgrims on their journeys. Our first contact. I wonder where they are now? Knowing what we have done to get here, we understand what they must be experiencing.
Soon we begin a the long and steady climb to the Meseta, a wide and flat plain on top of the plateau. The fields are beautiful and green and the path, long and winding. It reminds me of the New England Tableland early in the wet spring.
We reach our destination early in the afternoon and check into our accommodation. We find the owner’s sister is married to Emilio Estevez’ son, Martin Sheen’s grandson. It seems our host is quite friendly with the Sheens as they made the movie.
A pilgrim’s dinner with our Aussie friends ends the day.
